D-Day, June 6, 1944, was a massive Allied invasion during World War II aimed at liberating Nazi-occupied France. More than 156,000 troops from the U.S., UK, Canada, and other Allied nations landed on five beaches along the Normandy coast. Despite fierce German resistance and heavy losses, the Allies established a vital foothold in Europe. This operation, known as Operation Overlord, was a key moment in the war, setting the stage for the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany and the liberation of Europe.

To Mark the 80th Anniversary of this historical day, the Royal Mint of Great Britain has issued this 1oz silver D-Day commemorative coin that celebrates the courage of all those who took part in the pivotal battle of World War II.

This legal tender £2 coin is struck in proof condition from 1oz of .999 Fine Silver. It has an extremely limited mintage of just 10,010 coins struck for worldwide distribution.

The obverse design features an uncrowned portrait of his majesty King Charles III created by award winning coin designer Martin Jennings.

The reverse designed by Royal Mint artist Daniel Thorne depicts Allied soldiers as they storm the beach in thigh high water along with the inscriptions “UTAH”, “OMAHA”, “GOLD”, “JUNO” and “SWORD” which are the code names given to the five beaches of Normandy the Allies attacked. The reverse design also includes the inscriptions “6 JUNE 1944” and “D-DAY”.

This 2024 Great Britain £2 Proof Silver D-Day 80th Anniversary commemorative has been certified PF70 Ultra Cameo First Day of Issue by NGC!!
